about things that interest me

The network is rapidly displacing the hierarchy and with it the virtual displaces the physical. We’ve got a ways to go, but think about how our relationship works (very little physical, a lot virtual, very close and intimate, even though we are rarely together physically). I experience this even more profoundly as an introvert as I’d love to spend even more of my time physically alone but emotionally and intellectually connected.

Hacker High School, GameDesk, Aims To Create A Generation of Makers

Wow, I would love to go to a school like this.

You have to watch the second video! It has started to get me to rethink many of the assumptions I have. Especially, the paying kids for grades program in NYC. I mean no one would need to pay me to read as much as I do, because I actually love it and I think it makes me more knowledgeable. Could we find ways to get people to think the same way about whatever subject interests them?

Pardon my grammar.

Declinism resurgent

Well this time all the people who believe in declinism are right…at least on a relative basis.

Pretty profitable parrots

“ As a result, firms pay insufficient attention to the art of copying. Levitt examined a group of companies whose sales depended on regularly launching new products. None of them, he found, had either a formal or informal policy on how to respond to other firms’ innovations. So they were often far too slow to imitate rivals’ successes, and missed out on profits.  “

President Obama's Performance on the Economy Is Hurting His Standing Among Key Voting Blocs.

Spot on analysis.

By all accounts, Obama’s economic performance has been shit. He can say it was Bush’s fault or Congresses fault or he saved the world from Armageddon but at the end of the day he is the President and the economy is shit! As the great Bill Clinton said - “It’s the economy stupid.” So expect a lot more talk about how Romney is evil.

Btw if things seem to be getting worse (or do get worse) from an economic perspective, I would say Obama is going out. It is all about perception rather than the reality on the ground. Reagen won his second term with a shity economy that looked like it was on its way up.

The Real Reasons Why Brands Like GM Still Don't Like Facebook Advertising

Honestly, I am shocked. I have made way more transactions due to Facebook’s paid advertising than Google’s (not organic search). Maybe that is just me…

Anyways, I think Facebook advertising has a very bright future. They still haven’t exported it to the rest of the web. They still haven’t figured out the best “social ads”. They still haven’t tried to monetize their mobile users. They still haven’t integrated with Yahoo and Bing - this is what Google should be worried about (paid search is great, but paid + social search done right might be better).

Premier League - Paper Round: Reds want Pep talk

Who doesn’t want Pep?

I personally think the FA chose Roy Hodgson over Harry Redknapp so that when Roy fucks up they can go after Pep (after his year off of course).

I doubt Pep will go to Liverpool. I think he might be serious about this year off thing. He left one of the greatest teams ever because he wanted a break. You don’t leave a team like that unless you really want a break… don’t you?

“ Roberto Di Matteo of course could win the Champions League with Chelsea on Saturday, but again the Telegraph says that he does “not hold out much hope that he will be given the job on a full-time basis and is being linked with a move to the Italian club Lazio”. “

- This is what is wrong with football ! If Di Matteo wins the Champions League and Chelski & Abromovich do not offer him the job because he isn’t an “A-list coach” that will be outrageous. How did Andres Villas Boas turn out?
